RareCandy - Trading Card Marketplace Test

Task: Wireframe and explore how instant rippable packs fit into today’s Rare Candy app (mobile‑first). Emphasize the endtoend user journey from discovery through redemption

Assumptions - use the least amount of change possible with the current experience to meet the feature requirements.

  • Try to reuse as much of the current framework as possible

  • When reviewing tcg trader and boxed.gg they have extensive social integration and taxonomy for digital packs, for rare candy to compete with this frame work an overhaul of certain areas would be required to integrate a similar construct. However using the existing construct I think we could start small building and integrating in a workable flow for opening digital packs, and social sharing as needed, including inserting them into my collection, and perhaps selling for candy currency

Starting Point

  • Understanding the current state and core loops for the feature.

  • Mapping out the entry points for finding products, understanding the product des and purchase flow, understanding how collections are laid out, understanding what social features exists ie feed, share.

Build Thoughts

  • I want to find ways to insert functionality where it already exists so it feels inclusive of the existing experience without adding net new components, reduce dev time, reuse what exists. Im big on not adding new and challenging to not do so for dev sake.

  • I need to understand the click states of the current state in order to work in new flow design to capture adding features.

  • I dont have anything to work with, what’s new… so I’ll hack together mobile screens to identify where I will insert new frame flows seamlessly using existing architecture.

Wishful Initial Thoughts

  • Boxed.gg - I feel has social overkill, spam chat flow, and I dont find it useful. I do like their token drops to encourage engagement, but overall it becomes discord clutter imo. Im trying to avoid that social feature.

  • Boxed.gg - hard to navigate the web experience, I do like their search and sort

  • When building splinter lands, the thrill of opening cards was the highlight, and the sharing on social platforms or in the feed was the highlight. Try to keep the social engagement concentrated to areas where we can capture the data for sharing, selling, buy ops, etc.

Build

  • Using Chat GPT for messaging, copy text, and minor graphics

  • Using Figma Make to make quick mid-fi frames for flow placement with prompts

  • Using Lovable to explore some AI Ideas, and possible prototyping steps

Questions

  • Where do we place Candy Currency? Inside settings? Include as an alternate payment type in end step of checkout.

  • Exercise did not include “sell card” flow, and where that currency goes when sold. I assume its accrued with an alternate amount bill of sale, then paid and used in checkout

  • How far to go with the social integration, outside of the feed element… potential chat widget? Social media share,

  • Inside Collection, need a flow for selecting cards to ship to address, with msging

  • I still would consider moving Settings out of the footer, and placing a burger menu at the top to hold all of settings and perhaps a parent nav of your credit balance, see example.
